A leak from Starbucks in the USA has revealed that Niantic is preparing to release new Pokemon for Pokemon Go. However, there is no indication as to what this means; although that hasn’t stopped people from speculating that this is the expected release of the 100 new Pokemon from the franchise’s second generation.
Leaked documents were mainly concerned with an upcoming Starbucks promotion that will turn all US stores into Pokestops for the holiday period. Which really isn’t all that important for those of us who live outside the United States of America.
What is important is the indication that more than one Pokemon is being introduced to the game. The internal promo announcement starts with the line “The world of Pokemon Go is about to expand with new Pokemon and a new Starbucks beverage”. The plural use of the word Pokemon probably means that this isn’t the release of Mew.
On the other hand, there is speculation that this could be a holiday promotion to release the three Generation I legendary Pokemon birds. It would certainly be the right time of year, with everyone in the mood to get together and celebrate.
In any case, the US promotion is set to begin on 8 December; which is when we will get to see what all this secrecy is all about.
