Microsoft is apparently ready to announce several new devices at a new hardware launch scheduled for October. Headlining this event could be something called ‘Cardinal’.
Nobody is sure what Cardinal refers to, as there have been few leaks about the matter. However, Mary Jo Foley of ZDnet believes that it could be referring to the rumoured Surface AiO; which could possibly come in three sizes. Earlier rumours of three display sizes did not confirm if these are actual production models or if they are simply Microsoft testing the sizes to see what works.
In fact, it is uncertain whether Cardinal is a codename or the name of the final product. Although, it is more likely that it is is a codename, seeing that the word doesn’t quite fit with Microsoft’s current device branding direction.
Microsoft itself is being extremely quiet about the matter. The company has refused to comment on the rumours, and doesn’t even acknowledge that an event is taking place. Despite this, it would be about time for the Surface line of devices to receive a refresh. Intel has taken the lid of its new seventh generation Kaby Lake processors, and it would make sense for Surface machines to get new processors.
Nothing has been said about a possible Surface Phone, but fans of Windows Phone devices will still be hoping nonetheless.
