SwiftKey Suspends Cloud Syncing Services Over Data Leak

SwiftKey – a popular mobile keyboard app – has apparently encountered a glitch in its cloud syncing service. The glitch led to several users receiving text predictions that weren’t offered to them before; which includes unknown email addresses and phone numbers – all of which point to a possible data leak in SwiftKey’s database.

The leak was reported by several Reddit users claiming to have been offered unfamiliar text predictions by the SwiftKey keyboard. Alarmingly, some users mentioned that they have received phone calls from unknown people that’ve found their number through SwiftKey’s suggestions. That’s not all, a number of users have also noticed that unfamiliar email addresses are being offered to them on login pages.

SwiftKey was swift to address the issue in its most recent blog post. The Microsoft-owned company acknowledges the data leak, but claims that the issue did not pose a great security threat to its users. That said, the company has mentioned that it has disabled its cloud syncing services (for now). In addition, the app has also been updated to remove email address predictions as well.

Regardless, SwiftKey has asked users of the third party keyboard app who believe that they are still experiencing the glitch to report it to the company at reviews@swiftkey.com.
