It seems like it was only yesterday that Sony released their FE 50mm f/1.8 (especially since the lens was only recently available for purchase in Malaysia) but the company is already releasing a faster 50mm f/1.4 to add to its Sony Zeiss lineup of lenses.
The new Sony Planar T* FE 50mm f/1.4 ZA features dust and moisture resistance, 11 aperture blades for circular bokeh and, it having the Zeiss name, has a T* Anti-Reflective Coating. Sony has also implemented their Ring Drive Super Sonic Wave Motor System for quick and quiet auto focusing.
The lens’ construction seems identical to the Sony 85mm G Master lens albeit not as big. It has the same aperture click switch on the side of its barrel for either clicking or smooth aperture transition – a feature that videographers will appreciate.
The FE 50mm f/1.4 ZA ships later this month in the US and retails for $1500 (about RM6000) with no word yet on a local release.
