opera max

Opera has announced that their Opera Max data-management app will soon be integrated into selected phones from three additional manufacturers: Acer, Hisense, and TWZ. This brings the total number of OEMs with the software installed up to 14 and Opera believes that its Max software will be on more than 100 million Android smartphones by 2017.

Opera Max is basically a proxy server that intervenes all the incoming and outgoing traffic from a particular smartphone and then reroutes it to Opera’s servers which will then apply several bandwidth-saving techniques on the traffic. This may include compressing videos and pictures and optimizing basic HTML and CSS.

Opera Max however is not targeted at users that already have unlimited data plans or has more than enough data then what they normally will use per month. Instead, this service is aimed at users that are on metered data plans. Opera claims that Opera Max will reduce data consumption as much as 50% and it may go higher for users that use Instagram, Youtube and Facebook regularly.

Opera Max will soon be available pre-installed on smartphone OEMs that will include the likes of Acer, Oppo, Samsung, Cherry Mobile, Evercoss, Fly, Hisence, Micromax, Mobiistar, Prestigio, Symphony , TWZ and Xiaomi.
