Gionee has unveiled its brand new smartphone, the S Plus, in India. Packed with a Super AMOLED display, a USB Type-C port and “Immersive Touch,” this 16,999 Indian rupee (about RM1,105) smartphone is pretty interesting.
While it’s not the most affordable Android device in the market, the S Plus does have pretty respectable specifications for its asking price. It features a MediaTek MT6753 octa-core processor paired with 3GB of RAM, a 5.5-inch 720p Super AMOLED display, 16GB of internal storage (expandable with a microSD card up to 64GB), and a generous 3,150mAh battery with support for fast charging. Rounding out its hardware are a 13MP rear camera, a 5MP front-facing shooter, LTE connectivity, and Immersive Touch.
Needless to say, the most interesting feature of the S Plus is Immersive Touch. Unfortunately, Gionee did not clearly specify just what it actually is. It will be pretty impressive if Immersive Touch is Gionee’s version of a pressure-sensitive display, although it’s doubtful.
Although there is no indication that Gionee will be bringing in the S Plus to Malaysia, it’s worth noting that the Chinese company expressed its interest to enter the Malaysian market earlier this year. Whether or not the plan is still on remains to be seen.
