A study from Otterbox has revealed that Malaysia has one of the highest mobile phone penetration rates in the world with 140% – That’s more mobile phones than people! The same study, titled “The State of Our Smartphones” also revealed that one third of Malaysians are likely to have damaged their smartphone within the first three months of owning it.

The research was based on 500 Malaysian smartphone owners and they found that a slip of the hand is the most common way of breaking a smartphone. Some phones may not have the best grip, causing consumers to unintentionally drop their phones in all sorts of places – at work, during a commute, and even while walking.

When it comes to travelling, an innocent selfie at the beach could spell water damage for their smartphones. What’s most interesting is that consumers can even damage their phones in the kitchen. Maybe they accidentally inserted the phone with the baking tray into the oven?

Would you?

Smartphones are designed to be used right out of the box without any casing. That being said, if you know you’re clumsy or aren’t careful with your phones, then it’s best to protect it with a case or screen protector.
