Asus Malaysia has just held a media preview session for the Asus ZenPad 7, the company’s new tablet. During the session, we were told that the ZenPad 7 will be launched on the 26th of August 2015 in Malaysia. The best part is, it will be a consumer launch event.
At the time of writing, details on the consumer event are still light. We do know, however, that the event will go on from the 26th to the 30th of August 2015. Seeing how the Asus ZenFone Selfie and ZenFone Go have appeared in SIRIM’s database, these devices could be launched at the event as well.
In terms of specification, the ZenPad 7 has a 7-inch 1280 x 800 resolution IPS display, an Intel Atom x3-C3230 quad-core processor paired with 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage (expandable with a microSD card up to 128GB), and 3G connectivity.
Rounding out the hardware are a 13Whr battery which provides up to 8 hours of battery life, an 8MP rear camera, a 2MP front-facing shooter, and Android 5.0 Lollipop with the company’s ZenUI out of the box. Other than these specifications, what makes the ZenPad 7 particularly interesting is the fact that it can be customised with functional back covers (a world’s first, according to Asus).

Other than showing a whole suite of different coloured back covers at the event, Asus Malaysia also demonstrated the very loud Audio Cover, which provides “immersive 5.1 channel surround sound”. We are pretty impressed by the maximum volume and audio quality of the accessory.
Unfortunately, Asus Malaysia did not provide us the retail price of the ZenPad 7 at the preview event. One of our readers, however, has pointed out here that the company’s product guide for August and September 2015 showed that the ZenPad 7 will go for RM659.
When we asked Asus Malaysia regarding this, we were told that the final retail price is still under review (which could be caused by our weakening currency).
