Google’s Chromecast is getting an expansion in the form of an ethernet adapter. While the Chromecast works just fine over a WiFi connection, there are times when a wired connection is preferred. The adapter itself looks like an expanded power brick with an ethernet port on the back.
Plugging into the Chromecast’s USB port, the ethernet adapter provides both power and a network connection of up to 100Mbps to the dongle. That being said, it is only currently available in the US, and will require a universal adapter for anyone planning on using it in Malaysia. It is unlikely that there will be other variants on the adapter any time soon.
Google has been planning more features for the Chromecast, and providing a wireless connection could be the first step in the anticipated gaming functions for the device. It should be noted that the ethernet adapter has already been sold out in the US Google store.
