Huawei is apparently working on an Android Wear smartwatch and have confirmed that it is due for release this year with an official announcement due at Mobile World Congress 2015 in Barcelona, Spain. The company currently has the Talkband B1 as its only wearable, and is looking to expand the range in 2015.
The announcement was made at a briefing in the company’s campus in ShenZhen, where the company revealed that an Android Wear device is in development, among other things. A smartband is also in the works to target health conscious users who would rather have one of those.
Huawei is also unlikely to make the its next flagship smartphone the main focus of the MWC event, instead favouring the Ascend Mate 8. Whether it will still carry the Ascend branding is questionable, as the company has been quietly moving away from the name.
It looks like Huawei will provide some interesting news in Barcelona when MWC starts on 1 March.
