Apple Sued for Offering Less Storage Space on its 16GB iPhones Running on iOS 8

Apple iOS 8 Update

Think that the whole bad luck with Apple’s iOS 8 is finally over? Not really, a pair in California recently sued Apple for offering less than 16GB of usable storage space on their 16GB iPhones and iPads, and getting even lesser space after updating to iOS 8.

The lawsuit, filed by Miami residents Paul Orshan and Christopher Endara, mentions that Apple does mention the amount of usable space on their device, but the recent iOS 8 update takes up more space than before. It says that Apple failed to notify customers, and are misleading their customers particularly with devices sold with iOS 8 pre-installed.

“Apple’s misrepresentations and omissions are deceptive and misleading because they omit material facts that an average consumer would consider in deciding whether to purchase its products”

The complaint also mentions how Apple cleverly offers its paid iCloud storage when customers run out of local space and are desperate for more, for example, when a customer is trying to take photos of a child or grandchild’s recital, basketball game or wedding.

This is not the first time things like this have happened. Back in 2007, Apple was sued for offering only 7.45GB of usable storage on its 8GB iPod Nano. Similarly, Microsoft offered about half the storage on its Surface, but of course, that was back in the early days when the Surface was just announced.
