Vivo X5 Max Takes Thin Smartphones To The Limit

The recently announced Oppo R5 currently holds the title of “thinnest smartphone in the world”, but it won’t for long if  Vivo has anything to say about it. The Vivo X5 Max will apparently be only 3.75mm thick according to promotional materials, putting it at the extreme limit of how thin smartphones can go.

A number of leaked images show an individual measuring what is supposed to be the Vivo X5 Max, which does indeed measure in at 3.75mm in terms of thickness. In order to achieve the thin form factor, Vivo has apparently moved 90-percent of the internals to the sides of the device, leaving as little as possible between the display and the back phone.

The company has assured that it will not be sacrificing memory card slots and a conventional 3.5mm audio jack for a slimmer form factor on the X5 Max unlike the Oppo R5. How it intends to do this will be an interesting engineering challenge to see.

As far as the internals go, the Vivo X5 Max will feature a 5.5-inch 1080p screen, a 1.7GHz octa-core MediaTek chipset, a 13MP camera coupled with a 5MP front-facing camera, all of which will be running on Android 4.4 KitKat with 2GB of RAM.
