The much awaited expansion for Hearthstone was revealed at Blizzcon over the weekend. Called Goblins Vs Gnomes, it centres on the two most mechanically adept races in Warcraft. Over 120 new cards will be released into the game, and players will be able to chose which pack they want to open with either in-game gold or real world money.
As the trailer suggests, both Goblins and Gnomes are extremely good at building machines; most of which end up exploding spectacularly at some point. This theme is carried into the new expansion with the release of the Mech creature type. These come in both neutral and class specific types and appear to combo in together in some way. The previewed cards also tend to feature random effects and targets; possibly explained by the unpredictable nature of machines in Warcraft.
The expansion is due out in December and it will be interesting to see how Blizzard’s first card game expansion changes how the most popular online card game is played.
