In this day and age, it’s understandable if you don’t know every single detail about Marvel and the comics it publishes, what with the plethora of characters, the copious amounts of comic book issues or hundreds of series. A few French students have come up with a solution that makes remembering the details, all the easier.
In commemoration of Marvel’s 75 year-anniversary, a handful of French students from the Hétic school in France have built a database that details every little thing you could ever know about Marvel. The entire process spanned four days but not everything is perfect for the ambitious few though.
Named “Ultimate 75th”, the database charts and catalogues the publicly available data that Marvel offers through its REST API. The REST API allowed the students to extract the required information from Marvel’s own database. This allows users to look for the inception of their favourite character or even the death of a hated antagonist. The french students encountered multiple errors and bug issues however, such as the incorrect listing of 20 Amazing Spider-Man issues when there were actually 700 published issues. Other bugs such as the freezing of the database if one scrolls through Marvel’s history at a quick pace also plague the website.
On the bright side though, majority of the data on the database is accurate. You can check out the full experience of Ultimate 75 right here if you want to kill time or are a Marvel fanatic looking to expand your knowledge.
