Microsoft has issued a recommendation to uninstall the most recent patch to the Windows operating system. This comes as reports that patch MS14-045 is causing the blue screen of death on computers. It was originally intended to fix three issues which includes a problem with the Windows kernel, but has apparently broken something else along the way. User who have not yet installed the patch should be fine as long as they elect to not allow Windows to update itself.
ComputerWorld has reported that the issue is mainly confined to systems running the 64-bit version of Windows 7. Microsoft has apparently removed the patches from its Download Center, although there are still reports that it is being pushed out by Windows Update.
Users experiencing the issue say that the recommended fix of booting into Safe Mode and then uninstalling the patch does not always work. Some have had to resort to a full re-install of the operating system to recover their machines. Users who have already installed the patch and have not yet faced any issues should remove it anyway to be on the safe side.
