The Kingston HyperX Fury is a “USB Thumbdrive for Gamers”

HyperX, Kingston’s gaming arm that manufactures high-performance RAM and SSD tailored for gamers, has announced – of all things – a USB flash drive for gamers and enthusiasts. Yup, we’re not quite sure what that means either.

Here’s the thing: all USB flash drives can be formatted to support different devices, from the traditional PC and Mac and to gaming consoles like the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. So what does a “USB flash drive for gamers and enthusiasts” mean?

Essentially, the HyperX Fury is a USB 3.0 flash drive that is available in three storage options: 16GB, 32GB and 64GB. It comes in “an aggressive case design with colored aluminum accents to stand out from other USB Flash drives while complementing PCs and consoles”, which is perhaps the only advantage that the HyperX Fury has.

The company claims that the flash drives offer “impressive” read and write speeds of 90MB/s and 30MB/s respectively, which is still below what other high-performance USB flash drives offer – though the low starting price of $19.99 could be a reasonable explanation.

Nathan Su, Flash Memory Sales Director, APAC Region for Kingston, had this to say of the new HyperX Fury:

We are pleased to offer gamers and enthusiasts on a budget a fast and cool looking HyperX USB Flash drive.

The HyperX Fury USB flash drive will come with a 5-year warranty and free technical support. More information on the product can be found on the official product page here.
