App of the Week: Keep Fishin by WerakuGames

App of the Week: Keep Fishin by WerakuGames

Keep Fishin Get Rich by Fishing

It’s been a while since our App of the Week posts so to kick things off again, here’s an app to keep you entertained – Keep Fishin by WerakuGames. Remember the Kangkung Crush Fiasco we talked about earlier this year? Keep Fishin is made by the same developer and also packs a lot of simple fun.

What is Keep Fishin?

Keep Fishin on App Store

Available in the App Store for iOS devices, Keep Fishin features a similar concept as Kangkung Crash, which is a side-scrolling game where players control the main character to avoid obstacles while collecting as many coins as you can. However, since this is a fishing game, the character is a cat driving a submarine-like vehicle. The player has to either make the cat dive down to capture more fishes, or jump up in the air to steal fishes carried by pelicans.

Play with Tutorial

The story is that the cat, called Sniffles, is a poor little kitty with a big dream – to own a big house and to keep his boss, who is a shark, happy. To achieve this dream, he will have to catch lots of fishes in the dangerous water filled with obstacles like coconuts, mines and more. Collect as many fishes as possible, which turns into coins, and help Sniffles buy his dream home.

In-Game Items

Coins – Catch fishes in exchange for coins, and use them to upgrade Sniffle’s house, or to upgrade to a whole new area. Coins can be earned by fishing, or can be purchased using real money – from USD$0.99 for 100,000 coins all the way to USD$9.99 for 1.4million coins.

Buy Coins

Milk – When you die in a game, use milk to continue playing. Milk are given free every 30 minutes or less depending on your upgrades, but if you’re too impatient, you can purchase more using real money – a fridge full (12 bottles) for USD$0.99.

Playing the Game

When you start playing the game for the first time, it will come with a simple tutorial telling you how to play – tap left to dive into the water and tap right to jump up. Fishes can be found on all three levels – up in the air carried by flying pelicans, hopping on the surface of the water, and swimming deep down.

You’re only given two lives in each game session – that means that you’re only allowed to hit an obstacle once, the game will be over the second time you crash but hey, if you have milk left in the fridge, you can use them to continue your game.

Playing

As you progress in the game, there will be more obstacles and water will become very rough, so watch out.  You can hop on regular obstacles like the coconuts, ships and such however, as you progress, mines will appear and they will kill you instantly upon contact, even if you have both lives left. There will also be some items for you to collect like helmets, bags of coins and more; I actually haven’t gotten that far.

Fired

House upgrades will speed up the time the milk on your fridge gets refreshed or buy the Phony Plant to get an extra life in each game. These items don’t come cheap though, so I predict a lot of game playing before you can level up.

Expensive House UpgradeOr buy a new house entirely located in a new place. It also brings you to a new place to Keep Fishin

Conclusion

If you have a lot of time to kill and are sick of all the games you’re playing, Keep Fishin is without a doubt a fun alternative. It’s a simple game that you can get the hang of within minutes and hey, it’s completely free for download though, you will have to bear with the annoying ads that pops out once in a while.

What I like about it is that the ads are not too “in your face”, and essential in-game items are given for free so unless you wish to progress really fast, you can just wait for them to keep playing. You can also play as many times as you want with no “energy” restrictions that only refills every half an hour or more.

Interested? Download Keep Fishin now for free on the App Store.
