Hands On Gigabyte P35 v2 01

You might be familiar with Gigabyte motherboards and graphics cards but how about Gigabyte laptops? Well, we are not surprised if this is actually the first time that you heard of it. Truth be told, the Taiwanese company actually has quite a number of laptops under its wings that are designed for various types of users; from gaming all the way to enterprise.

However, only a handful of them are officially available in Malaysia through its sole notebook distributor for our market, Illegear. At the moment, the only type of Gigabyte laptop that is officially released into Malaysia is gaming laptops which include this particular model: the P35W v2.

One of the first things Gigabyte highlighted to us regarding the P35W v2 when we stumbled upon it at Computex 2014 is the laptop’s 15.6-inch display full HD IPS display. The company boasted that the display not only has a wide, 178-degrees viewing angle (as expected from an IPS display) but it also has 72% NTSC colour gamut and 300 nits luminance rating.

Of course, Gigabyte did pay attention to other components within the P35 v2 as well. Other standard parts that the company has built into the laptop also include the 2.5GHz Intel Core i7-4710HQ quad-core processor, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 870M GPU with 6GB GDDR5 memory, 8GB DDR3L-1600 RAM, 128GB mSSD, 1TB 5400RPM hard drive, and a Super Multi DVD drive which can be swapped with a 2.5-inch hard drive or solid state drive by using the bracket that is included alongside the laptop (shown above).

In addition to its backlit keyboard and glass-like trackpad, users are also able to spot a security lock slot on the left side of the laptop (shown below) as well as a Gigabit LAN port, two USB 2.0 ports, an audio port that support both standard 3.5mm and optical S/PDIF connectors, microphone port, and a SD card reader. At the same time, the power, VGA, HDMI, and two USB 3.0 ports are located at the opposite side together with a Mini DisplayPort.

Gigabyte has also equipped a pair of 1.5W speakers together with a subwoofer into the P35W v2 gaming laptop. As the laptop is pre-installed with the Dolby Digital Plus Home Theatre audio enhancement software, users are able to tweak the laptop’s sound output to their liking or choose one of the presets that are readily available within the software. Not to forget, the laptop also comes with an HD webcam for users’ video chat needs.

At a glance, the Gigabyte P35 v2 is certainly a looker; mainly thanks to its matte black finish and the sleek 20.9mm body profile. Weighing in at 2.16kg, the laptop’s no-frills design is indeed an interesting choice by Gigabyte for a segment that is dominated by bombastic-looking products. In terms of availability, the Gigabyte P35 v2 is already in our market since mid 2014 with a starting price of RM 5,999.

Stay tuned for a further look at the Gigabyte P35V2 gaming laptop coming your way very soon. Alternatively, you can learn more about the gaming laptop over at www.illegear.com or www.gigabyte.com.
