Byte Sized Reviews: The Muku Shuttr Selfie Remote

Right now, the selfie craze has hit fever-pitch and doesn’t look like its going away anytime soon. The internet is littered with self-shot pictures with varying degree of duck and sparrow face even the EDM scene contributed to this with the song by Chainsmokers being played to a point of irritation. Since selfies are not going away anytime soon, if you can’t beat them, join them!

The Muku Shuttr was a kickstarter campaign back in July or so last year and it got an incredible response, garnering just under 10 times the required goal. The Hong Kong based company has since appointed greyculture as their distributor in Malaysia and they were kind enough to send one over for us to test out.

Within 5 minutes of it being in the office and the words “selfie remote” being uttered, the members of the Lipstiq.com managed to annex it and put it through its paces like no man could ever manage. The Shuttr has been called the world’s thinnest camera remote and that’s definitely no lie. Coming in at a very slim 6mm it fits onto your keychain and has a low enough profile to fit into your wallet as well.

Pairing the Shuttr is just as simple as using it, connecting seamlessly via bluetooth. The shuttr also has a selector switch to toggle between iOS and Android modes so you can use just about any smartphone from those 2 ecosystems out there.

Using it is even simpler. Just fire up your camera app, press the shutter and there you have it. Out of the box the Shuttr is compatible with

IOS: Shuttr works on all IOS 5.0+ devices (current IOS version is 7) with a camera on it.  i.e. iPhone 5s/5c/5,  iPhone 4S/4,  iPad 3/2, iPad mini, iPad with Retina Display, iPod touch 4th generation or above

Android: Samsung Galaxy S4, S3, Notes 3, Notes 2, Notes Tab 2, Notes 8, 10.1. (Shuttr MAY NOT works with low-end or old Samsung model, including S2, Notes 1, S3 mini etc, we DO NOT recommend Shuttr to you in case you are using these models) Moto X Nexus 4, 5 and all newer version with bluetooth 3.0+ and Android 4.1+

Sony Xperia Z (Works only with when our own Camera app installed)

HTC New One and X+ (Works only with when our own Camera app installed)

If your model is not listed here, fret not because they have a camera app that you can download and use right away! Check out this page for all the 3rd party apps that the Shuttr is compatible with.

All in all, we’re quite happy with the Shuttr. In the package you also get a kickstand that allows you to prop up your phone to make selfie taking that much easier. The Muku Shuttr retails for RM188 and comes in Black or White. Get yours at Grey Culture Today!
