Lego Robot With Samsung Brain Solves Rubik’s Cube In 3 Seconds

A Lego robot has broken the world record for fastest time in solving a Rubik’s Cube. The previous world record of 5.27 seconds was set by a machine – known as the Cubestormer 2 – made completely of Lego. It’s successor, has smashed that time by solving the logic puzzle in only 3.25 seconds.

While the body and working servos of the robot are created using Lego Mindstorms, all the computing power comes from an octa-core Samsung Galaxy S4. Each of the four ARM Cortex-A15 and four Cortex-A7 processors controls an individual actuator for manipulating the cube.

The phone uses the camera to analyze the cube, and then uses the processing power of the Galaxy S4 to decide what needs to be done. It’s a more elegant solution to the problem than rigging a camera and computer setup to accomplish the same thing. It might be safe to assume that a Cubestormer 4 will eventually be built with a Samsung Galaxy S5 at some point.
