The Sony Xperia Z may be water- and dust-resistant, but it appears there may be some issues with Sony’s flagship Android device. A number of owners have taken to the Sony Xperia support forums to complain about “sudden deaths” plaguing their handsome new phones.
Apparently, something is causing the Xperia Z to shut down on its own with no prior warning, regardless of battery level. Also, a hard reset does not solve the issue for most owners, with some adding that the random shutdowns happening as often as twice a day. Fortunately, a Sony Xperia support staff has replied in the forums to inform owners that the issue behind these random shutdowns has been found, and will be fixed in the next software update. However, an exact date for the update to be delivered could not be confirmed.
On the other hand, it should also be noted that our review unit of the Xperia Z did not experience any random shutdowns throughout our review period.
