The year-end editor’s note has always been the hardest thing for me to write. Multi product shootouts, in-depth reviews, breaking news all have nothing on this short, recap of the year gone by. 2013 marks my second year leading the Lowyat.NET team and my fourth being a part of this amazing community. This year certainly hasn’t been an easy one, with the relaunching of our YouTube channel Lowyat.TV, our EP Amir and my approach to this has been to constantly put new stuff out and then “see how”. From our first few videos where we didn’t have a clue what we were doing, or what you wanted as an audience to our latest project, The Influencer in conjunction with Nokia Malaysia, we’d like to thank you for letting us grow our teething problems out and letting us evolve with your tastes as well.
Aside from Lowyat.TV, we’ve also added a member to our editorial family this year and with that made a change in the direction of our site. While retaining our breaking news and reviews that you have come to know Lowyat.NET for, we have made a shift to a more “longform” style of writing, sharing more of our opinions and writing more for interaction with you, our loyal readers. We decided that feeding you news is all well and good, but what we really wanted was to speak more to you as a whole and of course for you to speak more with each other about tech matters that mean something to you. Granted, the danger to this is that we may have opinions you don’t agree with and after 4 years at Lowyat.NET, I know that you are all a very opinionated bunch! I’ll go on record as saying that a difference in opinion is not an attack on your own =) We’ve got a few regular commenters that adds so much value to our posts and from all of us, thank you and let’s keep the discussion going, be it on facebook, twitter or our comments section.
Moving forward for 2014, we have a major site revamp in the works, bringing Lowyat.NET up to where we want it to be and where we think it deserves to be. We are also working very hard to bring you updated and useful content for easy reference such as telco plan comparisons, device comparisons and more in depth reviews for a wider range of devices. We will be working hard with Lowyat.TV to bring you more segments like WTB, The Movement and our Sensible Reviews as well.
From all of us here at Lowyat.NET HQ we’d like to thank you for your support in the last 364 days of 2013 and look forward to interacting more with you in the next 365. Where ever you are tonight, be safe and have an awesome last day of 2013 and first day of the new year.
And to feature our homegrown talent, Here’s a video from rapper Jin Hackman to remind you what happened this year: NSFW Language Warning!
