Just as it promised a month ago, Instagram has published its first “sponsored post” – also known as advertisement – to its users. For now, also as promised, the sponsored post – an image by Michael Kors – is only currently appearing on the feeds of American users. Interestingly, though, these posts/ads will appear just like any other post would – with the exception of a sponsored label for those who are not following the advertised accounts.
However, users will have the option of removing such posts should they wish to: users can hide promoted posts as well as providing feedback for any further comments. In the future, more users will be seeing such posts, with a list of advertisers such as adidas, Burberry and Levi’s, as well as a similarly gradual introduction of videos on the social media site.
