Tizen-3-0-Major-Features-1

As mentioned last week, the latest iteration of Samsung’s Tizen operating system, Tizen 3.0, has been revealed. The Tizen Developer Summit starts today in Seoul, and there, the new features of the latest Tizen 3.0 build has been unveiled.

Given that the summit has just begun, details are still trickling in on one of the alternative mobile operating systems. However, while a live demo is yet to be seen, some presentation slides have been revealed on Tizen Experts regarding the new features on Tizen 3.0. For starters, Tizen 3.0 will support multi-user configurations, as well as support for 64-bit architectures.

In addition, Tizen 3.0 will also sport a 3D rendering engine to render 2D objects in a 3D space. This Linux-based platform will also use Wayland as a compositor, which is said to be a better replacement or X. Nokia also announced that its HERE Maps will power Tizen with its extensive set of maps and “maps related functionalities”.

Unfortunately, the roadmap revealed by one of the slides at the summit shows that Tizen 3.0 may only see a public release in Q3 of next year – the current stable build, version 2.2.1, is scheduled for a public release this month – though there are still no Tizen-based devices for consumers to be seen.

The Tizen Developer Summit ends tomorrow.
