Update: An adidas Malaysia rep has confirmed with us about the release date of the Springblade here in Malaysia. Unfortunately, the Springblade running shoes will only make its way here in February next year. Yup, next year.

Having labeled its Energy Boost running shoes as “a revolution in running“, adidas is set to continue the revolution with its latest running shoes, which is set to be launched on August 1 – and by the looks of it, the new Springblade shoes is one of the most radical approaches yet from the adidas Innovation Team (aIT).

True to its name, the adidas Springboard goes away with foam soles in favour of sixteen forward-angled, highly elastic blades that are made from a high-tech polymer. These blades compress and release energy, creating a push-off sensation akin to that of a spring. Additionally, the blades have also been tested to perform at the highest efficiency levels as well as maintaining its durability, resulting in a material that is seven times more temperature resistant than the company’s own EVA cushioning.

On top of that, the upper of the Springblade shoes also use the company’s Techfit technology, ensuring a snug fit over the runner’s foot to further increase the efficiency of the energy release by the blades beneath. The translucent finish of these blades also adds to an impression that the runner is levitating over ground.

The adidas Springblade running shoes will be available in the US in seven colours for $180 (around RM540), with a countdown timer already appearing on the company’s US site. We’ve approached our contacts at adidas Malaysia about the potential availability of the Springblade in the country, and will update the post when we have received a reply.
