It has been around three years since Samsung launched the Galaxy SmartTag2, so it’s about time for an upgrade. Enter the Galaxy SmartTag3, the latest iteration of the South Korean tech giant’s compact tracker. Announced alongside the Galaxy Tab S12 lineup, the accessory brings quite a few changes, including cross-platform compatibility.
Starting with the most apparent, the device has a completely new look. It adopts the squircle design the brand seems to be quite fond of, with an aluminium-decorated button in the centre. Notably, the tracker has lost the built-in mounting loop, but it is smaller and lighter now. According to the company, the SmartTag3 is approximately 35% smaller by volume and 33% lighter than the previous generation, making it easier to attach to items. But of course, that last part only makes sense if you get the additional accessories. Samsung’s announcement mentioned two options: a Silicone Case with a keyring and a Loop Case.

Moving beyond appearances, the SmartTag3 is the first generation to offer cross-OS compatibility for Galaxy and iOS devices. This means that iPhones can check the tag’s location via SmartThings Find. Furthermore, tracking features have been improved. The new tag offers Compass View with Bluetooth 6.0 Channel Sounding, providing directional guidance from up to 60m away. This is about three times farther than the previous generation. Meanwhile, ultra-wideband (UWB) allows for better precision.
Additionally, Samsung has introduced a new Place Notification feature, which lets users define a certain area and receive a notification when the tag enters or leaves it. The feature leverages location data from the Galaxy Find Network and surfaces information when it’s relevant. Furthermore, Location History allows users to review where their tag has been, while Movement Detection Alert notifies them when movement is detected.
Battery life also gets a boost, going from 500 days to 550 days under normal usage conditions, and from 700 days to 790 days in Power Saving Mode. The tag also retains familiar features like an IP67 rating, Lost Mode, SmartThings IoT Control, and Left Behind Alert.
The Samsung Galaxy SmartTag3 will be available in South Korea on 7 October 2026, with other markets following later in 2027. That said, the company did not offer any concrete dates for these launches. Pricing also remains under wraps for now.
