After several leaked images and rumours circulating online, Huawei has officially announced that it will be unveiling its latest flagship series, the Mate 90 series, in China on 1 October. The launch event is scheduled for 10AM China time, which is the same as Malaysian time, while sales are expected to begin on the same day at 12:08PM.
Ahead of the launch, Huawei has also shared an image revealing the design of the Mate 90 series. As shown above, the phone features a rather distinctive rear panel while maintaining the same camera module shape.
Naturally, Huawei is still keeping the Mate 90 series’ specifications under wraps for now. However, several details have surfaced online ahead of the launch, including from well-known tipster Digital Chat Station. According to the leaks, the lineup is expected to comprise the base Mate 90, Mate 90 Pro, Mate 90 Pro Max, and Mate 90 RS, similar to last year’s Mate 80 series.
Rumoured Specs
Before we dive into the specifications, bear in mind that most, if not all, of these details remain unconfirmed by Huawei. Furthermore, some information, including the internals, camera specifications, battery capacities and memory configurations, appears to be incomplete. As such, take the following details with a grain of salt.
Starting with the internals, according to Weibo tipster Digital Chat Station, the base Mate 90 will reportedly feature a Kirin 9030 chipset, while the Pro variant is expected to come with a Kirin 9035 SoC. Meanwhile, both the Pro Max and RS models are allegedly powered by the Kirin 9050 Pro. Based on the leaks, the Mate 90 Pro Max and Mate 90 RS are also expected to share the same specifications, with the main difference being the RS variant’s high-gloss titanium unibody design.
Details about the screen are a bit scant, but reports claim that the Pro will be outfitted with a 6.75-inch dual-layer OLED display. The Pro Max and the RS models are tipped to have the same dual-layer OLED panel, but the only difference is that it will come in at 6.9 inches. Meanwhile, we still do not have any screen sizing details for the base model at the time of writing.
For imaging, the Mate 90 Pro Max will allegedly feature a primary rear camera with 18EV of dynamic range. Alongside will reportedly be a 200MP periscope telephoto lens. Again, if the reports are true, then these details should also apply to the RS model. Unfortunately, camera specifications for the base and the Pro models are still unknown.
Rumours have it that Huawei plans on launching a Collector’s Edition which will support a 1-inch 10x zoom lens. It’s worth noting that videos of the aforementioned lens are circulating online.
As for colours, leaked renders of the Mate 90 Pro showcase the device in green, pink, black, and white colourways, all four sporting that two-toned back panel. The RS variant, on the other hand, will reportedly come in red-gold, white-grey, and black-grey combos. It should also go without saying that Huawei has not revealed the pricing for the smartphone series at the time of writing.
Once again, keep in mind that Huawei has yet to confirm any of the reported specifications for the Mate 90 series. With the launch scheduled for tomorrow, however, we won’t have to wait much longer for the company to reveal the official details.
