An Amazon customer recently became (another) victim of an online scam, after they ordered an NVIDIA RTX 5080 and received something else entirely.
The story goes that the Amazon customer and Redditor initially ordered an MSI GeForce RTX 5080 Suprim Liquid SOC for about US$1,400 (~RM5,662). Note that they had purchased the card from a third party seller on Amazon, and not the e-commerce multinational itself.
What they received instead was a small box. Too small, to be precise, to fit a water-cooled RTX 5080 and the radiator attached to it. Upon opening it, the victim saw a vacuum mug and a pamphlet inside. When confronted about it, the seller told them that the mug was a “gift”, sent ahead of the GPU’s imminent “arrival” that should arrive at their doorstep at a later date. But, as these things usually go, we all know that was never going to happen.
Another obvious telltale that the RTX 5080 was never going to arrive at their doorstep was the email listed on the pamphlet. It asks that the customer wait seven business days for the GPU, and also provides an email that is highly suspect: Support@AmazonService.xyz.
Now, we both know that this is not an official Amazon support domain, and even the multinational itself warns customers that it uses its own recognised domains. The bottom line is that the provided email was a scam.
The Redditor reckoned that the idea behind the scam here was that the customer would keep communicating through the fake address, up until the point that the return process would become tedious, at which point the scammers would hope that the victim would throw in the towel.
“In it was pamphlet saying if I wanted to expedite the gpu arrival, I would need to email support@amazonservice.xyz. My guess is they just want to you to keep emailing the wrong address until you are out of your return window and then you are stuck with the $1400 vacuum mug. I have already sent it back for a full refund.”

Thankfully, they knew what they were dealing with and simply requested a full refund from Amazon.
