BYD recently previewed its Shark 6 (known as Shark in other markets) during the BYD Tech Discovery 2025. This marks the plug-in hybrid (PHEV) pick-up truck’s first appearance in the Malaysian market, highlighting the automaker’s Dual Mode Off-road (DMO) Super Hybrid technology.
As previously reported, the Shark 6 features a boxy body profile with a bold front fascia that incorporates rectangular LED headlights and distinctive C-shaped LED daytime running lights. At the rear, the design continues with rectangular taillights connected by another full-width LED light strip. Additional features include side steps, roof rails, and 18-inch alloy wheels.
The interior of the Shark 6 comes with a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 15.6-inch infotainment rotating display that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It also comes with powered front seats and a multi-function steering wheel.
As mentioned above, the BYD Shark 6 is built on the automaker’s DMO Super Platform and is powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged inline-four engine producing 135 kW and 260 Nm of torque. It is paired with a dual-motor setup in which the front motor delivers 170 kW and 310 Nm, while the rear motor adds 150 kW and 340 Nm. Together, the system produces an impressive 321 kW and 650 Nm, allowing the truck to accelerate from 0–100 km/h in just 5.7 seconds.
Energy comes from a 29.58 kWh BYD Blade Battery, offering an electric-only range of approximately 100 km and a total driving range of up to 840 km. Charging options include AC charging at up to 7 kW and DC fast charging at up to 55 kW. With the DC charger, it is claimed to replenish the battery from 30% to 80% in 25 minutes. It is also equipped with a vehicle-to-load (V2L) function that delivers up to 6kW of power.
According to Paultan.org, there has been no official confirmation on whether the BYD Shark 6 will enter the Malaysian market. However, its recent appearance suggests that a local debut could be on the horizon. Should BYD move swiftly, it could become the first automaker to introduce a PHEV pickup truck in Malaysia.
