Back in March this year, the Town and Country Planning Department (PLANMalaysia), under the Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT) proposed to develop an application to bring all electric vehicle (EV) charging providers, such as Shell Recharge, Charge EV and others under one platform.
According to PLANMalaysia, the goal of the proposed app is to enable EV users to locate charging stations, activate charging sessions, and make payments seamlessly, regardless of the platform or network. However, PLANMalaysia faced a significant challenge, which ensuring the availability of real-time and accurate data on EV charging stations nationwide. The agency noted that any discrepancy in data could frustrate users and undermine public trust in the system.

Well, that could be solved now as recently, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced on his Facebook page that the government has approved the development of an e-Mobility Service Platform (e-MSP). According to Anwar, the decision was made during the National Energy Council (MTN) Meeting No. 2 of 2025. “…as well as approved the development of the e-Mobility Service Platform which will integrate and coordinate the operations of electric vehicle (EV) charging stations nationwide,” he stated in his post.
With the government setting a target of 10,000 EV charging stations across Malaysia, such an integrated platform would serve as an invaluable tool for EV users. Furthermore, according to data from the Government of Malaysia, as of October 2025, a total of 4,345 EVs have been registered, reflecting the rapid growth of the country’s EV market and underscoring the importance of a unified e-mobility platform to support this expanding ecosystem.
