Elon Musk has announced that the Tesla Roadster is expected to be unveiled on 1 April 2026 (yes, on April Fool’s Day) at the automaker’s 2025 Annual Meeting. “I have some deniability, because I could say I was just kidding,” he added. “But we are actually tentatively aiming for April 1 for what I think will be the most exciting – whether it works or not – demo ever of any product.”
The second-generation model of the Roadster was first unveiled back in 2017, and since then, the model has yet to be launched by the company. Back in July 2025, Tesla’s Vice President of Vehicle Engineering, Lars Moravy, provided some updates on the Roadster 2, stating that it would be “the last best driver’s car”. He also mentioned that the company has been working on improving the Roadster to make it better for customers.

According to Elon, the model will be different from what was shown before. “…the product unveil of the Roadster 2, which will be very different from what we have shown previously,” he said. He later added that production would begin 12 to 18 months after the debut, which means the Roadster will only will be launched on 2027.
This can only be taken as another announcement for now, as some would agree that until the car is physically shown, all of this sounds like empty promises. However, with the recent updates and Elon finally setting a date for the unveiling of the long-awaited EV, we might finally see it become a reality.
The Roadster 2 is claimed to feature an all-wheel-drive setup capable of completing the century sprint in 2.1 seconds, with a top speed of over 250 km/h. It also boasts a range of 1,000 km. Other features include a glass roof and a four-seat interior.
