Transport Minister Anthony Loke announced that Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad’s (KTMB) Electric Train Service 3 (ETS3), which will connect Kuala Lumpur to Johor Bahru, is in its final stage of preparations ahead of its launch by mid-December. However, the date for the launch of the Kuala Lumpur–Johor Bahru route has yet to be decided. “So, we are still looking for a suitable date because some final preparations need to be finalised, but the ETS service to Johor Bahru will start no later than mid-December,” Loke added.
According to Loke, the new route will enhance travel convenience as Johor prepares to welcome tourists for Visit Malaysia 2026 and Visit Johor 2026. “So, this is an additional mode of transport in Johor, and I am confident it can also help the tourism sector in Johor, especially in secondary towns and small towns like Segamat, Labis, Kluang and Kulai,” he said.

The ETS3 route from Kuala Lumpur to Kluang was launched in August this year. During the launch, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong personally took the driver’s seat and tested the ETS3 on a 285-kilometre journey from KL Sentral to Kluang Station, which took 3 hours and 30 minutes on the 140 km/h train.

Fares for the journey start from RM80 one-way. Along the route, the train makes stops at Bandar Tasik Selatan, Kajang, Seremban, Pulau Sebang, Batang Melaka, Gemas, Segamat, Labis, Bekok, and Paloh.
