From OpenAI’s ChatGPT Atlas to Perplexity’s Comet, it’s safe to say that AI-based browsers are gaining a lot of traction. Though the field is already dominated by big names in the field of AI, Samsung plans on joining the fray with its own Android-based browser on PC.
The browser is called Samsung Internet, and it is equipped with a few features that are relatively similar to its competitors. Be that as it may, Samsung was quoted by 9to5Google saying that this browser is “built for the future of ambient AI”.
As per the report, the new desktop browser includes “early Galaxy AI capabilities”, like Browsing assist, that can help in translating and summarising various pages. Furthermore, Samsung Internet for PC also allows users to sync their browsing history, bookmarks and passwords from any device running the mobile version of the app.
The browser is also equipped with a Privacy Dashboard for viewing trackers, blocking pop-ups, and more. 9to5Google presumes that the browser should also allow the use of extensions, such as ad blockers. And in the chance that the browser is made with Chromium, we might see additional extension support in the future.
If you’ve had a Samsung phone, you might already be well acquainted with the third-party browser. However, it’s worth noting that this isn’t the first time Samsung has tried to bring its browser to PC, as it had a modest launch via the Microsoft Store in 2023 which was subsequently shut down in 2024.
A beta version of the browser is available starting today, but the experience is only available for Windows users in the US and South Korea. However, the publication mentioned that the Samsung Internet browser will be available to additional regions in the future, followed by a stable launch thereafter. Unfortunately, neither 9to5Google nor Samsung shared when the beta version of the browser will be available or which country will receive it next.
