Repair work on the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) Putrajaya Line continues after a major disruption yesterday on 25 October 2025, which investigators have now linked to the theft of key communication cables. The incident severely affected the line’s signalling system, forcing operators to take immediate action to restore stability.
Authorities initially believed the disruption was caused by ongoing signal upgrade works. However, Prasarana Malaysia Bhd’s president and group chief executive officer, Amir Hamdan, later confirmed that technical investigations revealed stolen communication cables and signalling components were responsible for the system failure. Technical teams from Prasarana and the line’s original equipment manufacturers are now working together to repair and stabilise the affected network.
In its latest update, Rapid Rail Sdn Bhd said its investigation revealed that thieves had cut and stolen more fibre optic cables than previously estimated. The operator said the extensive damage requires significant repair work to ensure safe and reliable service before full operations can resume.
MRT trains running between Kwasa Damansara and Putrajaya Sentral stations are currently operating under manual control. This measure has resulted in slower travel speeds and longer dwell times at each stop, with trains arriving every 20 to 30 minutes.

To support commuters, Rapid Rail has deployed free shuttle buses between Kwasa Damansara and Putrajaya Sentral stations. These buses operate every 15 to 20 minutes, depending on road traffic conditions, and provide an alternative option for passengers affected by the reduced train service.

Rapid Rail has not announced an expected completion time for the works and is urging passengers to check the Rapid KL social media pages and the PULSE app for real-time updates. Additionally, the company advises travellers to plan their journeys in advance and consider alternative routes to avoid delays.
