In conjunction with the official Chinese launch of the Magic8 and Magic8 Pro smartphones, HONOR teased an upcoming device called the Robot Phone. Though the concept device is still a long way away from being fully unveiled next year, the consumer tech company has provided a teaser video of what to expect.

Immediately stating the obvious here, but this “robot phone” is, essentially, a standard smartphone with a gimbal camera reminiscent of a DJI Osmo Pocket 3. What makes it “earn” the “robot” in its name is that the gimbal will move and look around like a normal human would. And, if the concept trailer below is anything to go by, maybe even react like one. As for the phone body itself, it is reminiscent of the recently launched Magic8 smartphone.

If you are a keen-eyed observer, then you will have noticed that the footage used in the video was made with AI (if you haven’t had your daily dose of AI slop, you’re welcome). The video showcases the camera looking around, observing the world around it. Additionally, the trailer also suggests that the robot phone is capable of talking, interacting, and maybe even capturing photos of people.

When you visit the official HONOR page about the would-be product, you’d be greeted with a wall of text that reads, “We couldn’t help but wonder, what if a device could exist…with the super brain of AI, perceiving the world around you in an instant; With the super mobility of a robot, sharing in the vibrant moments of your life; And could transform into your personal camera, capturing every precious memory with precision. What kind of device could this be?” Aside from the information gleaned from the trailer, not much else is known about the product.

HONOR is expected to unveil the concept product at MWC 2026, which is slated for early March of next year. For those who’d like to know more, you can sign up for the company newsletter for “behind-the-scenes stories and first-hand information”.

Additionally, by registering, you can also join in on early user research that might ultimately shape the final product. You’d also get priority trial access and be the “world’s first” to experience and test the device.
