Infinix XPAD 20 Pro Hands On: Straightforward And Simple

What you see is what you get.

As promised last week, Infinix unveiled the XPAD 20 Pro. If the name doesn’t already make it obvious, it’s a souped up version of the vanilla XPAD 20 launched earlier this year. That said, the brand is calling it a “follow-up”. Prior to the device’s official debut, Infinix gave us the opportunity to get acquainted with it, so here are my initial discoveries.

Starting with the display, the XPAD 20 Pro gets a bigger 12-inch LCD screen with a 90Hz refresh rate and brightness of 450 nits. It is worth mentioning that the default refresh rate is 60Hz, so you need to head into the settings to switch to 90Hz. The display has a 2,000 x 1,200 resolution and 5:3 aspect ratio, with a pretty low pixel density of 194 ppi.

Aside from that, you get some fairly chunky bezels, as is to be expected of an entry-level device. It’s not something that particularly bothers me, especially since the display is big enough for reading and streaming videos. It’s also bright enough to use in daylight, but only just.

The tablet is pretty slim at 6.58mm thick. Its thinness, combined with the rounded corners, makes for easy handling despite its size. Still, it feels pretty sturdy and solid in your hands. The device is meant to be used in landscape orientation, as its front camera is placed on the right-hand side when you’re holding it vertically.

The tablet’s four speakers are split into pairs at the top and bottom, if you’re looking at it in portrait orientation. They’re not quite symmetrical, as the bottom pair are set a bit further apart to accommodate the USB-C port. Meanwhile, the power button and volume rocker are situated on the right side of the device. A little farther down is the microSD and SIM card tray.

This model is the Titanium Grey version, which is pretty standard as far as tablet colours go. It’s a hue that leans a tiny bit on the warmer side of the spectrum. There’s a Mist Blue variant for those looking for a cooler shade, but both options are low-key, which suits the minimalist design. However, these options are a tad boring, given the fact that the regular XPAD 20 is offered in green and purple.

Infinix XPAD 20 ProWhile the XPAD 20 Pro comes with a protective case in the box, you will have to purchase a stylus and keyboard as neither of these is included by default. This may not be a dealbreaker for some, but I do think having at least one or the other would make for a more optimal experience, especially if you’re looking to use the tablet for productivity purposes.

Speaking of, the tablet does come with a few features that are meant to help in that area. Of course, a number of them are powered by AI, like with many modern electronics. The XPAD 20 Pro has the Folax assistant on board, as well as a real-time translation app.

As for the cameras, the rear is equipped with an 8MP lens. This sensor lives in a slightly raised squarish bump, which adds some visual interest to an otherwise simple design. Meanwhile, the aforementioned front camera is a 5MP shooter.

The Infinix XPAD 20 Pro is available for RM999 on the company’s online stores on Shopee, Lazada, and TikTok Shop, as well as its physical stores and authorised retailers. In the meantime, I will be spending a little more time with the tablet over the coming weeks, so stay tuned for a full review.
