CelcomDigi has announced that its current CEO Idham Nawawi will be stepping down from his role once the month ends. The telco said in the announcement that he will be staying on as an Advisor to the Board until 30 November. This will mark a full three years since he has helmed the company since the merger of both Celcom and Digi into one entity on 30 November 2022.
The telco says that Idham is leaving due to “personal reasons”, but has not named a successor to the role. Instead, Deputy CEO Albern Murty will step into the role of Acting CEO, while retaining his deputy lead duties.
Idham joined the telco previously known as Celcom Axiata berhad back in 1 September 2018. His contributions to the company include leading the company’s transformation and “revitalised its performance, and inculcated a new way to work”. He is also noted to be instrumental in getting the Celcom and Digi merger through, resulting in the CelcomDigi that we know today.
“It has been an honour to lead CelcomDigi as the founding CEO, including the historic merger of Celcom and Digi – creating the largest telecommunications company in Malaysia and commemorating a landmark moment in our corporate history”, Idham said. He added “I firmly believe that CelcomDigi is now on a strong footing to propel further as a market leader. Personally, this role has been one of the greatest and most unexpected privileges of my career, and I wish CelcomDigi continued success.”
