Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd (KTMB) released an announcement stating that it will be adding two additional Electric Train Service (ETS) trains in conjunction with the school holidays and upcoming public holidays, including Malaysia Day, Maulidur Rasul, and Malaysia Day. These trains will be added on the route from KL Sentral to Padang Besar.

The extra train service will be available for 18 days across the months of August and September. The dates include 28 August till 1 September, 5 September to 7 September, and 12 September to 21 September. “These additional trains will offer 630 seats daily, including business class, for a total of 11,340 seats throughout the 18-day period,” KTMB said.

The reason for this initiative is to meet the increased travel demand during the holiday season. The company also aims to encourage Malaysians to travel using public transport to their hometowns and avoid traffic congestion. “This move aligns with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s announcement on 24 July of an additional public holiday on 15 September,” KTMB added.

Travellers are encouraged to plan ahead and purchase their tickets early to enjoy more affordable and flexible fares while avoiding last-minute rushes. Tickets can be conveniently purchased online through the newly enhanced KITS Style app, which offers a variety of services in one platform and is available on the Play Store, App Store, and AppGallery.

Passengers are advised to arrive at the station at least 30 minutes before departure, as ticket gates will close five minutes prior to the train’s scheduled departure time. For reference, the southbound train departs Padang Besar at 11.05 am and arrives at KL Sentral by 4.30 pm, while the northbound ETS leaves KL Sentral at 5.00 pm and reaches Padang Besar at 10.20 pm.
