Earlier this month, Samsung debuted One UI 8 with the Galaxy Z Fold7 and Flip7, making the foldables the first devices to receive the latest version of the operating system. Apparently, this might not be a one-off occurrence, as this could be the company’s new strategy for software updates.
According to an X post by known leakster Ice Universe, the company will launch its foldables with the latest Android version right out of the box. This is reportedly because Samsung is planning to align major One UI updates with Google’s Android releases. This means that next year’s Z Fold model will debut with One UI 9 based on Android 17, and so forth.
Of course, this may leave some wondering about the flagship Galaxy S lineup, which were the first to receive the stable One UI updates up until now. The leakster claimed that in the future, the phones will be getting updates to the One UI X.5 version later down the line.

While it sounds like the Galaxy S series is getting sidelined, Ice Universe explained that the content in the update will be more substantial than in the foldables. Some examples mentioned include updated UI designs and AI features. Additionally, the longer development timeline means that updates for the flagship series will be more refined.
