The LEGO pop culture crossovers continue with pretty longstanding partner Nintendo. And this time it’s for the classic among classics, the Game Boy. The build involves 421 pieces for a brick that’s 14cm tall and 9cm wide, so just about the size of the real deal.
It will, unfortunately, not come with any circuit boards, so no playing it like you would an actual Game Boy. That being said, LEGO has done mostly a good job in making as true to life a representation to the classic Nintendo hardware as possible. This includes what look like text printed onto some of the tiles, and the A and B buttons looking to be unique pieces as well. This doesn’t quite apply to the start and select buttons, and definitely not for the D-pad.
And while you cannot play actual games on this LEGO Game Boy, you can instead choose which screen it shows on the lenticular lens screen. You can have the default startup screen, or screens from either Super Mario Land or The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening. You get enough bricks to build the aforementioned game cartridges as well.
The LEGO Game Boy has an asking price of US$59.99 (~RM253), with a shipping date of 1 October. At the time of writing, the company has not yet listed it on the Malaysian site, but things may change as we get closer to the launch date.
