Last month, Shopee announced that it will be imposing a Platform Support Fee of RM0.50 for each successful order, which has now come into effect. With the introduction of this fee, the e-commerce provider has also outlined the groups who are exempted from paying it. Among them are Marketplace sellers who have fewer than 100 net orders in a month.
According to Shopee, the number of net orders is refreshed at the beginning of each month. During this time, sellers who qualify for the exemption will receive a push notification through the Seller Centre informing them that their orders will not be charged the fee. This means that if a seller completed under 100 orders in June, for instance, the Platform Support Fee will not apply to their sales in July.
In addition to this, Marketplace orders that include at least one essential item within certain categories will not be subject to the fee. Among the listed categories are Breads, Flour, Sugar, Oil, Salt, Rice, Garlic, Ginger & Onion, and Poultry. The reason for this is to ensure products within these categories will remain affordable for buyers. The platform does note that it will still charge the fee for products that are miscategorised as essential items.
Previously, the company explained that new sellers and those participating in the Fulfilled by Shopee Programme will also receive exemptions. The company has since updated its page on the fee to further explain these exemptions. Notably, orders made under the Fulfilled by Shopee Programme are exempted until the end of December 2025.

Additionally, Shopee has further defined what constitutes as a new Marketplace seller. Essentially, this category includes those who have opened a new shop and do not already have existing shops on the platform. This leaves out sellers with shops registered under the same user ID, seller ID, NRIC number, or business registration number.
