Ever since Nothing announced that it has “killed the Glyph Interface” for the upcoming Phone (3), many have speculated on what would take its place. The popular theory, of course, is that a dot-matrix display will replace the Glyph LEDs. Now, the company has confirmed that this is indeed the case.
Nothing revealed what it calls the “Glyph Matrix” in yet another teaser for the phone on X. The post also features a brief video showing how the lights will look in action. While there’s not much to go off of, we can glean a bit more information on the device.
For starters, the video does disprove a supposed leaked render of the phone from last week, as the Glyph Matrix is placed on the top right hand corner. This position of the new lighting system seems to leave no space for the centred camera setup depicted in the render. Moreover, a left-aligned camera system will probably make the most sense here, as the phone would look quite weird otherwise.
The video also shows that the Glyph Matrix is quite small, which might be a touch disappointing for some users. The signature Glyph Interface takes up a lot of room on the company’s existing phones, lending them a distinctive and instantly recognisable look. That said, having a more customisable dot-matrix display might be an acceptable replacement depending on how it works in practice, but we’ll only know once the phone arrives.

The Nothing Phone (3) will be launching next month with the Headphone (1) at an event in London, and it was recently revealed that the smartphone will run on a Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 chipset. Additionally, it will get five years of Android OS upgrades and seven years’ worth of security updates.
