The Johor government is introducing a Smart Queue System (SQS) that uses QR codes at Hospital Sultanah Aminah (HSA), which is intended to help reduce wait times and facilitate patient access to services. HSA will be the first public hospital in the nation to implement such a system, which cost RM1 million to develop.

According to MB Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi, the SQS will be introduced in phases at the hospital’s specialist clinics starting 1 July, with the system expected to be fully rolled out by the end of the year. After that, the Johor government plans to expand the SQS to other hospitals like Hospital Sultan Ismail as well as those in other districts.

The new SQS is similar to the JPJeQ system introduced by the Road Transport Department (JPJ), which lets the customer obtain a queue number by scanning a QR code. However, the Smart Queue System will have the added advantage of letting the patient use the same queue number to access different services during the same visit.

The existing system requires patients to take separate queue numbers for the respective specialist clinics and pharmacy, which is a process that can be inconvenient. The SQS should not only make things more convenient, but also reduce the overall waiting times. Additionally, the system will also send notifications to the patients’ mobile phones when their turn is approaching.
