Instagram debuted its video creation app Edits back in April as a prospective rival to CapCut, with plans to continue adding more features to it over time. Among the features being developed is an in-app teleprompter display, which is designed to aid creators present their content more naturally.
App researcher Alessandro Paluzzi shared a sneak peek of what the teleprompter will look like. Based on the screenshot, the script will be shown just below the phone’s camera, with sliders for adjusting the size of the text as well as how fast the words are displayed. Of course, the final version of the feature may not be exactly like the preview, but the general idea will probably stay the same.
An in-app teleprompter might seem like an odd choice for a video-editing platform, but it may be useful in some contexts, especially given the fact that Edits is a creator-focused app. Displaying text on-screen eliminates the need for memorising scripts, allowing for a more natural and engaging delivery. Additionally, the placement of the text enables the user to easily maintain eye contact with the camera as they read out the script.
At the time of writing, it is unclear when Edits will receive this feature as no exact date has been given. In addition to the teleprompter, more AI-powered tools are in development. Some examples include background generation, and translation of the original video material into a different setting. It is worth noting that some of these features will be added to Instagram as well, but they will first arrive on Edits.
