There has been a leadership change at Proton, where Ainol Azmil will be covering deputy chief executive officer effective 10 June. He will be taking over the responsibilities from Roslan Abdullah who decided to step down after taking the position in January 2022.
Ainol will continue his responsibility in corporate strategy and group technical procurement with the company while playing the role of deputy CEO. He will also report directly to Proton’s CEO, Li Chunrong, who has expressed confidence in his ability to take on the temporary appointment.
“Proton would like to convey utmost gratitude to Roslan Abdullah for his contribution to the company and we wish him well in his future undertakings,” he added. However, the reason behind Roslan’s departure from the company remains unclear.
Nevertheless, his contributions to the national automaker have been significant. His journey began in June 2019 when he was appointed General Manager at DRB-Hicom Bhd, Proton’s parent company. In June 2020, he joined Proton as CEO of its sales arm, Proton Edar Sdn Bhd (PESB), and later served as Vice President of Sales & Marketing. In January 2022, he was promoted to Deputy CEO, reporting directly to CEO Dr. Li.

During his tenure, Roslan played a pivotal role in navigating Proton through the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic and was instrumental in the launch of several key Geely-based models, including the X50, X90, S70, and the facelifted X70. He also oversaw the establishment of Proton New Energy Technology (PRO-NET), the division responsible for distributing smart Automobile and Proton’s first electric vehicle (EV), the e.MAS.
