Earlier this month, Google announced that it was releasing a long-awaited mobile version of its NotebookLM platform. Now, as promised, the AI-powered note-taking and research assistant app is now available for download on Android and iOS devices.
In a blog post announcing the app’s launch, Google noted that this is the first version of the app, and it includes many of the core features from the desktop version, such as creating and viewing notebooks. The company also stated that more refinements and features will be added in the coming months. As with many mobile apps, the mobile version of NotebookLM comes in a light and dark mode, although it is based on the device’s system theme and cannot be manually toggled in the app itself.
As seen in the previews, the app interface has been adapted to be more compact to suit smartphones. The notebook cards feature a play button to easily access the Audio Overview feature. Speaking of which, the podcast-styled summaries can be played in the background, allowing the user to multitask. Additionally, the audio can be downloaded for offline playback.
Google also highlighted the ability to add a new source to the user’s notebooks from any app by tapping the share icon and selecting NotebookLM. Currently, the supported sources include websites, PDFs, and YouTube videos, but the company is planning to add new input types over time.
Since its inception in 2023, users could only access the NotebookLM platform on desktop. The mobile version is a welcome addition for users who are on the go, and can be downloaded from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store.
