It looks like AMD’s next generation of desktop Radeon graphics will be known as the Radeon RX 9000 Series, and not the 8000 Series as previously rumoured. Instead, that designation will be relegated to the integrated graphics cores of the upcoming Strix Halo mobile processor lineup.

The rumour follows an earlier on, where a Chiphell editor outed a Radeon RX 9700 XT as a possible SKU for the RX 9000 Series. This was followed by multiple posts on X, each containing a potential list of cards that are expected to launch in the series. In fact, popular leakster momomo_us, posted a screenshot showing the new series being listed on a French online store, Grosbill Pro, which lists two of the RDNA4 cards.

It should be noted that the list of RX 9000 Series desktop GPUs appear to top out at the 9700 XT, with no higher-tier SKU in sight. This falls in line with AMD’s earlier statement of shifting its focus towards market share in the gaming segment, instead of chasing NVIDIA’s tail in the high-end and enthusiast GPU market.

As an extra added bonus, AMD has started posting an ad for a CPU and GPU bundle. The GPU in the poster is believed to a first glimpse of the reference design of the RX 9000 Series.

AMD typically uses its own AIB reference designs for GPUs when posting such an advertisement. Even if this were an accident, it wouldn’t be the first time the chipmaker has had a hiccup of such.
