For now, the smart ring as a health tracker accessory is still pretty niche, even if it has big name backing by way of Samsung. So it should probably be no surprise if Apple suddenly throws its own name into the ring, as dictated by the whole Android vs iOS mobile platform wars. And according to a research firm, that may happen once 2026 rolls around.
CNBC cites the annual predictions report by CCS Insight which made the prediction. The reasoning behind the prediction is Apple CEO Tim Cook’s apparent focus on health tracking, noting it to be “a fundamental pillar” for the bitten fruit brand. Chief analyst Ben Wood went as far as saying that personal health tracking would be one of Cook’s major legacies once he retires.
Should it happen, it would be another new product category that the fruit company has introduced since the Vision Pro, which is still very recent. After all, the newest product category before the mixed reality headset was introduced was the first Apple Watch. Which would be fitting in its own way, as one would expect a smart ring to be an extension of the health tracking capabilities of a smart watch.
Wood also says that because of the Apple brand recognition, “a beautifully designed ring from Apple could be one of those things that’s almost a sort of status symbol”. Which, fairly or otherwise, already applies to just about anything the brand makes in general.
