Raspberry Pi, in collaboration with Sony, has constructed its own AI Camera module. It’s equipped with onboard AI processing, enabling the ability to handle AI tasks without additional graphics chips.

The camera module features a Sony IMX500 image sensor that processes data using AI, allowing users to create peripheral AI solutions to process visual data without any additional graphics chip. The camera is compatible with all Raspberry Pi single board computers, and pairs the company’s RP2040 microcontroller chip with the image sensor, requiring no additional accelerators or GPUs.

🚨 NEW PRODUCT ALERT 🚨

The Raspberry Pi AI Camera, built around Sony’s IMX500 image sensor with integrated AI accelerator, enables you to create impressive vision AI applications.

It has a resolution of 12.3MP and can capture video at either 10 fps with 4056 x 3040 resolution or 40 fps at 2028 x 1520 resolution. The camera also features manual focus adjustment, a 76-degree field of view, and measures 25 x 24 x 11.9mm, dimensions-wise.

CEO, Eben Upton, mentions that AI-based image processing is becoming an attractive tool for many developers worldwide and he’s hoping that the Raspberry Pi community can reach new heights with this Sony-powered module.
