Android phone makers these days are mostly dependent on either Qualcomm or MediaTek for their supply of chipsets. Xiaomi made a splash back in 2017 following the reveal of its own Surge S1, but there hasn’t been another one since, despite company CEO Lei Jun saying that it has not given up on the idea. More recently, a leakster claims that the brand may have something to show for after all this time, and it may be unveiled within the first half of 2025.

These details come from a post on X, previously Twitter, by leakster Yogesh Brar, who claims that “Xiaomi’s SoC project is going strong”. Said chipset would be based on TSMC’s N4P process, with a 5G modem provided by Unisoc.

2025 is a big year for Xiaomi with many revolutionary products in pipeline..

Despite it being released next year though, the performance of this Xiaomi-made chip will have “performance numbers similar to Snapdragon 8 Gen 1”. While it was a powerful enough chip for its time, it’s not really punching in the same weight class as current flagships, be they in number crunching ability or especially efficiency.

The leakster also says that “2025 is a big year for Xiaomi with many revolutionary products in the pipeline”, likely referring to the buttonless phone also coming out within the same window. Between the two though, the latter is easily the more exciting one. But since both are equally far away still, no sense in holding your breath for either.
